Make yourself a calming treatment in your own home

 Most probably every one of you has this herb in their home, but for sure you haven’t heard that you can use it in this way.

If you have noticed a particular smell in a new age book shop or maybe in the room where you practice yoga, maybe you don’t know that this smell is made by smudging or in other words burning herbs.

Bay Leaves were used as a healing herb for thousands of years, and it has been considered a holly herb by the Ancient Greeks and Romans. It is known that the winners of the Olympic Games were wearing bay leaves as head garland and its symbolic meaning was honor and glory.

Even though we use this herb mainly as a spice in cooking, we are well aware of its healing power and we also use it as an essential oil for its calming effect. It is also used as an ingredient in soaps, detergents, lotions or different creams. Bay leaves can be used as a analgesic, sedative and anticonvulsant. It lowers blood pressure, helps with treating insomnia and stress.

What is the benefit from burning bay leaves?

As mentioned before, if you burn different herbs it purifies the air in the room.

If you do this with bay leaves the effects are amazing.

After a bad day at work when you feel very stressed, come back home burn few leaves in an aluminum baking tray, close all the windows and door in the room and leave it. Just make sure that the tray is not near any flammable items, such as paper, linens or wood. Go back in the room after 10 to 15 minutes and you will feel that the smoke is making your muscles feel more relaxed and it will calm you. When you feel that it has helped you enough to feel better just dispose the ashes from the tray.
