New cats on the block! Ragdolls vs Maine Coons.

The relatively new beauties in the cat world are the Ragdolls. Maybe you haven’t heard about their name but you must have seen them. These cats are semi longhaired cats with gorgeous blue eyes who remind us a lot of the Himalayan cats and Siamese cats but with a long hair.

Ragdolls were developed in 1960s by Ann Baker in Riverside, California who for the breeding selected cats with gentle personalities, large size and beautiful patterns. The result was a beautiful Ragdoll who is one of the friendliest cats, likes to be petted and are always by their human’s side, come on their call, sit in their lap and enjoy with them. They are also one of the large cats so here in this article we will make a comparison with another large cat – Maine Coon. We already wrote about them, so you sure know their main characteristics.

The look

Ragdolls are pointed cats with sweet expression, medium sized ears with rounded tips with oval blue eyes. On the other hand, Maine coons have large ears, lynx tipped that makes them look like a wild cat. Both cat breeds have broad head and plush coat. Maine coons are usually larger than Ragdolls.

They prefer to be in a home atmosphere, don’t want to wander a lot.

Wow…so wrong. Maine Coons are more in the 800 – 1000 range. Maine Coon’s independent and don’t want to be held long? They haven’t met my Coonies. All they have ever wanted is to be with me, in my lap, not always easy when one is 28 lbs.
